Spring Update – March 9, 2021

New Battle Pass Rewards

  • FIENDISH HOOD Ranger Vanity
    • Quake 1 Fiend themed hood & back carcass
  • ENFORCER HELMET Ranger Vanity 
    • Quake 1 Enforcer themed helmet
  • SPOILS OF ARMAGON Ranger Vanity
    • Quake 1 Scourge of Armagon themed collection: Mjolnir and Horn of Conjuring

Map Updates

  • Exile
    • Fixed podium lighting causing the champions to appear dark in the pre & post game cinematics
    • Fixed a hole in the sky collision above Rocket Launcher

Champion Updates

  • Death Knight 
    • Testing something different. May change or remove this change later in the week, so test and provide feedback asap.
      • Increase fireball count from 3 to 5
      • Reduce fireball damage from 25 down to 15.
      • Reduce fireball splash from 25 to 15. 
      • Reduce newly added knockback from 30/25 to 15/15 (direct/splash) 
      • Increase trail time on ground from 5 to 7 seconds
      • Increased max trail creation height (how close to the ground a fireball has to be to leave a trail) from 3 to 5

Misc Game Updates

  • Ranger Camper Gone Fishing – Fishing line has been thickened and the vanity has been adjusted to fit properly on all of Ranger’s outfits
  • Capture the Flag – Restored the mercylimit to take affect in Round 1
  • Shambler Arm Lightning Gun – Changed hand animation to only occur once when firing begins
  • Old Painless Heavy Machinegun – The chaingun model will now lower out of view when zooming in
  • Terminator Super Shotgun – The Q3 Shotgun now has a pump-action reload animation
  • Painkiller Super Shotgun – The Q4 Shotgun now has a pump-action reload animation
  • Don’t mind us – Animation Test R&D
    • Athena Jolly Hat – Animation test is in progress to improve the current vanities by adding physics & animations 
    • Slash Sugar-Plum Tutu – Animation test is in progress to improve the current vanities by adding physics & animations 

Known Issues & Things-to-do:

  • High quality textures for the new rewards are not currently forced in Low/Medium main menu presentations
  • Power-up shaders are currently missing from the new vanity rewards (quad/protection fx on the item when worn by a power-up carrier)
  • In the Q4 Shotgun reload animation, the hand does not align with the pump grip on the weapon
  • On Exile the jump from the lower tri-bolt ledge around the corner to Rocket Launcher is not currently possible
  • On Exile the dark foggy shard tunnel below the LG light armor is considered by some to be “too dark”
  • On Exile, the sky collision is probably too low atm and can be bumped after performing some rocket jumps on the upper level.
  • Athena Jolly Hat animation has a bent joint
  • Slash Tutu animation has an improperly angled joint making it appear slightly too high in the front.
  • New rewards need final flavor text
  • Season 10 Battlepass & full rewards reveal

New Battle Pass Rewards

  • TERMINATOR Super Shotgun
    • Quake III Arena Legacy Shotgun
  • CAMPER GONE FISHING Ranger Vanity

  • All of the above rewards are currently available in Customization for testing. 
  • More rewards to come!

Map Updates

  • Corrupted Keep
    • Fixed exploitative hiding spot outside the shard hallway ring-out
  • Deep Embrace
    • Fixed Dire Orb exploits near Heavy Armor
    • Updated collision near Heavy Armor oil lamp that some players could get stuck on
  • Exile 
    • Redid all map collision
      • Fixes lots of issues related to collision such as getting inside walls, jumppad behavior, spawning below the floor, etc
    • Redid map lighting, darker environment, increased contrast
  • The Molten Falls
    • Updated collision to fix an exploit near the RL wall

Champion Updates

  • Death Knight 
    • Increased fireball damage from 20 to 25 each, added knockback to them (30 direct, 25 splash, removed splash reduction over radius).

Misc Game Updates

  • Capture the Flag – Restored the mercylimit to take affect in Round 1
  • Mecha Sorg – Added missing gore to the Mecha outfit. Now fully gibbable.
  • Shambler Arm – Added a firing animation to the shambler hand & fingers.

How do I get access to PTS?

You already have it! All players now have access to the Public Test Server. Whether you own Quake Champions on Bethesda Launcher or on Steam you should now have access. It’ll look a little different on each client. On Bethesda Launcher, you should now have a whole different icon for Quake Champions PTS – it’s Black and White (and probably at the bottom of your list of games – so you’ll likely have to scroll down to find it). You can click and drag it up your list to make it easier to find in the future, at which point it’ll look like this:

On Steam, in your Library, you should now have what looks like a whole new listing for a game called “Quake Champions PTS” that should be right under “Quake Champions” in your list of games. Should look like this:
