The Serb and the Swede teamed up under the name “Cheaters” and worked their way through the bracket, eventually winning the Grand Finals and €250.
Keencon’s first Team Series tournament, a series that will run monthly leading up to Barcelona Keencon 2024, saw 23 teams ready to compete against each other in a Double-Elimination bracket. The tournament had many notable players, many of which attended last year’s Keencon, and it received a lot of attention on various platforms, much thanks to the early announcement of the €10,000 LAN in Barcelona that awaits the scene in November.
Nikola “serious” Gojic and Markus “Keltz” Mikaelsson, teaming up under the well-known banner of “Cheaters”, started the tournament off with a walkover win thanks to seeding. In the second round they defeated BuGa (bukster & GaRpY) in two maps. In the third round they swept aside tournament favorites “Chicago Dogos”, consisting of maxter and rapha, also in two maps. In round four they had a tougher time against “some tricks” (Xron and toxjq) but eventually finished the match 2-1, finding themselves in the Winner Bracket finals.
Coming from the lower side of the bracket, “Railed” consisting of dramiS and RMV, had seen the same ease in their matches leading up to Round 4 (most notably beating Myztro RAVE in two maps) and after a somewhat gnarly 2-1 result against MCS Aimscamz (Effortless & psygib) had also earned their spot in the fifth round of the tournament. This match eventually went in the favor of Gojic and Mikaelsson, scaring off the American-English duo in three maps.
Meanwhile maxter and rapha had slowly but surely worked their way through the Lower Bracket, and eventually stood before serious and Keltz once again in the Grand Finals, where they would have to beat the deadly duo twice in order to pull through. However, Cheaters came prepared and bested “the Dogos”, winning the Grand Finals with a 2-0 score, taking home €250 in prize money, securing first seed for April’s tournament, as well as earning 10 series points.
